The ‘Who Am I’ Tag

Hello, lovelies!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a personal tag, and I changed a lot since the last time I did one. So, to keep you up to date about who is behind this blog, I decided to give this a go. I couldn’t find the creator of this tag, but I read Chicnerdreads post. I would recommend you to check out her blog, it’s a real gem.

Mediator personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, Mediators have an inner flame and passion that can truly shine.

Firstborns bask in their parents’ presence, which may explain why they sometimes act like mini-adults. Firstborns are diligent and want to be the best at everything they do. They excel at winning the hearts of their elders.

I am not sure everything this report says is true. It’s quite stereotypical.

This was really fun to do! I learned a lot about myself. What do you say? Are we somewhat alike?

The School Subjects Book Tag

Good day, everyone!

Thank you, Leanne @Never Trust a Book Nerd for tagging me. Or should I say, dank je! 😉

A book that left your head spinning in circles

Kiss of Deception

I definitely needed a moment after reading The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson. I knew there was a plot twist, but I still did not see it coming. My mind was blown, to say the least.

A book you think has beautiful, written expressions

Angelfall by Susan Ee is my new favorite! The entire time I was reading this book I was admiring Susan Ee for her writing capabilities. And I still do, of course! I also like Jennifer L Armentrout’s writing style.

Your favorite scientifically minded character

I can’t really think of a character who is scientifically minded, honestly.

Your favorite literary couple

Juliette & Warner. Need I say more?

Of course, I do! Who am I kidding? I don’t want to spoil you too much if you haven’t read the Shatter Me series yet, but this is my ultimate favorite literary couple. Their chemistry is just oh my lord. I’m also a big fan of Penryn and Raffe’s relationship (from Angelfall). I just adore them.

Your favorite character

Penryn from Angelfall. Yes, I’m mentioning Angelfall again. I can’t help it. This book is so amazing and I feel like I really bonded with the characters. Penryn is such a strong female character (yay feminism!). She just takes her life into her own hands. She is an incredible and inspirational character.

Your favorite foreign book/ film/ program

Oscar et la Dame Rose

Oscar et la Dame Rose by Victor Emmanuel Schmidt was a very surprising read for me! I had to read this book for school – and I tend to not liking those books most of the time – but I did enjoy Oscar et la Dame Rose! As a French book, this wasn’t a very difficult book either. I’ve done a review of this book a few months ago, you can read it here.

Die Welle is a German movie about a class of teenagers who believe that we nowadays are smart enough not to radicalize like the nazis did during WOII. Their teacher is distraught by their opinion and plans an experiment. He starts to teach more strictly and creates the slogan ‘strength through discipline’. The students seem to respond well to this new way of teaching and he decides to go even further. He creates a group ‘The Wave’ (in German: die Welle). Things turn bad and the teacher loses grip on his students.

This movie is based on a true story that took place in America during the 1960s. In only five days the teacher lost control over the teenagers. They had started to believe they were part of an elite. There is an English movie (and book) called ‘the Wave’, but I liked the German version of the movie better.

De Mol is a Flemish tv show about a group of people who go on a trip together. By playing games they can earn money. Only, one person – no one knows who – sabotages as much as possible. It’s up to the others to find this ‘mole’ and stay in the game for as long as possible. Every week they have to answer a survey about the ‘mole’. The one who has the least amount of answers right has to go home immediately.

Have you ever judged a book by its cover?

Yes, I do it more than I’d like to admit. My latest cover purchase was Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

The last historical book you read

Dutch translation

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I know it’s more literary fiction/ a classic, but it fits the theme historical fiction as well, in my opinion.

Literary destination you would like to visit

Maine from This is What Happy Looks Like. It’s a real-life city in America, but it still counts as a literary destination, doesn’t it? I can’t think of any fantastic world I would want to live in since most of them are horrible.

A book that you find overly dramatic

Caraval. I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t accept Scarlett and Julian as a couple. I cringed so much. I tried not to, but it was stronger than myself.

I tag:

Good luck!

Thank you so much for reading! liesje

The New York Times Book Tag!

Hello everybody!

Thank you so much Poulami @ Daydreaming Books for tagging me to do the NY Times Book Tag. She’s an amazing book blogger, you should definitely check her out!

Alright. Now you’ve done that, let’s begin!

What is on your nightstand right now?

I’ve quite a lot of books sitting on my nightstand at the moment: Angelfall (the book I’m currently reading), Caraval (because it’s gorgeous) and the books I purchased this month. Stay tuned for an awesome book haul!

What was the last truly great book you read?

I’ve read some incredible books lately, but the one I enjoyed the most is Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. I am planning on reviewing this book soon!

If you could meet any writer – dead or alive – who would it be? And what would you want to know?

There are a lot of writers I would want to meet but I am going to choose Arthur C. Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. I would love it if he could give me advice on crime novels and adding easter eggs into a story. There is so much I would want to know.

What books might we be surprised to find on your shelf?

I couldn’t think of any book that would really surprise you, haha.

How do you organize your personal library?

I organize my bookshelves by book series, and then I organize them by looks (height and color). It’s no rainbow bookshelf, but I placed my books in a way they look very pleasing to the eye, and that’s just what I want. Every time I glance at my bookshelf, I get excited and happy. (I don’t know if that’s weird or not, haha)

giphy (13).gif

What book have you always meant to read and haven’t gotten around to yet?

Doon by Carie Corp and Lorie Langdon! I have had this book for so long. The weird thing is that I really want to read this book, only I never pick it up.

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you are supposed to like but didn’t?

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I hear so many great things about this book before I picked it up. But then I read it, and I was really disappointed.

What kind of stories are you drawn to? Any you stay clear of?

I am drawn to stories with a secret message. I’m a sucker for slow-burning romance. I also love it when there is some great sarcasm or humor in a book.

On the other hand, I stay far, far away from instant romance, melodramatic or self-pitying characters or conventional plot lines. Things must not always go easy for the main character.

If you could require the president to read one book, what would it be?

The American president? I don’t know, honestly. I want to pick a great diverse book, but I don’t think he’ll interpret the story the same way I would. I really can’t say. Do you have suggestions? I am actually very curious!

What do you plan to read next?

Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Oh yes, so excited!!

If I haven’t tagged you and you want to do this tag, go ahead. You’ve been tagged!

The Goodreads Book Tag

Hello everybody!

Phew, what a week it has been already! Mainly because next week my senior year of high school has planned something absolutely fantastic, phenomenal and crazy. But I’ll be telling more about this in a separate post. Stay tuned for that the coming week!

A special thank you to the incredible The Orangutan Librarian for tagging me to do this one. If you seek great humor and content, you should definitely check out this blog!

What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

With Malice was a very entertaining read. I would really recommend this book for the ones who love some YA mystery.

What are you currently reading?

Currently, I’m buddy reading with the wonderful Maddie of Of Reading and Random Things. I’m not far in, but I can tell that I’m definitely enjoying it so far!

What was the last book you marked as tbr?

I am really intrigued by this book. I do not know so much about the plot, but I plan on reading this one as soon as possible. I ordered it not so long ago. It can come in the mail any second!

What book do you plan to read next?

Yesss! I am so happy I have this book in my possession. I couldn’t help but peek into this book and I ended up reading the first three chapters (sorry, not sorry). I can’t wait to fully invest my time in this jewel!

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes, I do. Only I have the same issue with it like everyone else. I want to be able to use half stars!

Are you doing a 2017 challenge?

I am, but it is not very high. I want to read more, but sometimes it’s difficult to find the time. That definitely needs to change!

Do you have a wishlist?

Oh yes, haha. It’s endless!

What book to you plan to buy next?

I am trying to hold back from buying books for a while, but I have a feeling that won’t last long… Currently, I have my eyes on Everland by Wendy Spinale and The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi.

Do you have any favorite quotes? Share a few.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
Bernard M. Baruch

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
Mahatma Gandhi

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
Dr. Seuss

Who are your favorite authors?

Jennifer L. Armentrout, Morgan Rhodes, Eileen Cook, Maggie Stiefvater, Laini Taylor, Marissa Meyer. I could go on and on.

Have you joined any groups?

I’ve joined a few, but I am not very active in them. That’s something I have to work on. I’m also looking for new groups to join, too.

Book Traveling Thursday | A Book That Made Me Smile

Hello everyone!

168709This weekly meme is created by Cátia from The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle from Danielle’s Book Blog. What you need to do is choose a book that is related to the theme announced in thegoodreads group and show the original cover, the cover you like the most, and the one you like the least.

It is time for another Book  Traveling Thursday! For me, this is one of the most fun tags to do and I love to read them on other people’s blogs. I don’t know what it is about discovering all the different covers of a book, I find it very fascinating. So this week we had to choose a book that made us smile. When I thought about which book to pick, there was one particular book – actually more the complete series – that immediately popped up in my mind. I am talking about The Shatter Me Series, because I have literally laughed out loud because of Kenji. If he were a real person, I would love to have him as my friend! I’m picking the second book, Unravel Me, because Kenji wasn’t really present in the first book and I haven’t yet finished Ignite Me. Enjoy!

The Autumn Book Tag

Hello everyone! Autumn has arrived and I am very excited about it. Just this week the weather has noticeably cooled down. It happened pretty abruptly where I live, actually. Two weeks ago I was struggling to cool off, it was almost unbearable. In 2016 climate change has really proven its existence here and I am really happy the world is standing up and is doing something about it. But I’m happy the weather is now cooled down and autumn is finally here. So I thought it would be appropriate to do The Autumn Book Tag. Thank you Lauren over at Comma Hangover for tagging me to do this tag.

1. What is your favorite thing about autumn?

Autumn is probably my favorite season out of all four, mostly because of the fashion and atmosphere around autumn. We get to wear sweaters again and wear cute scarves and socks, you know what I mean. In autumn everybody is also starting to get excited about Halloween and Christmas . It just feels very festive to walk outside with all the different colors of the trees and where decorations are being brought up again. I don’t know, the vibe of autumn is just so calming but exciting at the same time. Plus, I get to drink hot chocolate under a cosy blanket again.

2. What book reminds you of your school days?

I am still in school, so every book that I read right now might remind me of my school days, but there is one book that really bring up good memories about school. I know, crazy right? I read Throne of Glass two years ago on a school trip to London and it still reminds me of the good times I had there. And London is very beautiful in autumn.

3. What cover reminds you of autumn?

To me, this cover of Reign of Shadows has a dark and eerie vibe to it which really reminds me of rainy days in autumn. The story has given me that feeling too when I was reading it. I might re-read it in the near future, it was a really enjoyable read.

4. What’s your favorite horror or Halloween story?

I am actually not a big fan of horror or scary stories, but this year I am feeling open to try out a scary book. I can’t really give a good answer to this question at this moment, but we’ll speak again in a few weeks.

5. What is your favorite horror or Halloween film?

Again, I don’t really have that much to choose from, because I haven’t yet enjoyed much horror stories, but there is one scary movie that I did enjoy. It is a Dutch movie about a man who is allergic to the sun and was badly bullied for it and as revenge, now as an adult, he invites teenagers to his home around Halloween time and he kidnaps them one by one and turns them into dolls. He also has a terrifying ‘zombie’ walk that still gives me shivers every time I think about it again. And it isn’t even a movie for grown-ups. I saw it for the first time when I was 10 years old!

6. What fall book release(s) are you looking forward to?

Untitled design (6).png

7. What autumn movie release are you anticipating?

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 17, 2016)

8. What are 3 books you plan to read this autumn?

Right now I feel very ambitious and I would want to pick up every book on my tbr list, but I would really want to finish Ignite Me and Rebel Spring (I think that’ll happen soon) and I finally purchased Anna and the French Kiss, so that’s another book that is on my priority list.

Thanks for reading! Are you as excited about autumn as I am? Let me know in the comments :). Bye xLiesje

The BFF Book Tag

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to do the BFF Book Tag. I was tagged by the lovely Madie over at Of Reading and Random Things.

Setting the Example: A pair/group of book BFF’s that you love

Untitled design (5).png

I really like the friendship of Lia and Pauline. I loved how loyal they were to each other and how much they really cared for one another. It’s often in books and movies that the friendship is weak and is easy to break, but in this book it was not and I really liked that.

Childhood Bestie: Which book character would you have liked to grow up with?

Untitled design (6).png

I’d love to grow old with Katy from the LUX series! She is so funny and I really love her personality. I think growing up with her would be so much fun because she also loves books!

Frenemy: Which book character would bring out your competitive side?

Untitled design (7).png

I didn’t have to think long on this one. Celaena from the Throne of Glass series is so talented and smart and I would feel very intimidated to be friends with her, although I think she would be a great friend.

Fashion Guru: Who would be the bestie whose closet you’d want to raid or would you want to go on a shopping spree with?

Untitled design (8).png

I would love to go shopping with Eleanor. She has a unique fashion style and I think she would really inspire me to buy things out of my comfort zone.

The Bad Influence: Which character would you want to commit a small act of rebellion with? (go skinny dipping, sneak into a movie, have a drag race with, etc.)

Untitled design (6)

Again I have to pick this book again, because Daemon. 😉

Blood Brothers: Which character would you want to be your surrogate big brother/sister? (You can do both if you want)

Untitled design (12).png

I think Carson from Don’t Look Back would be a great big brother, because he is the protective type and a good listener.

Mother Hen: Which character would you want to be by your side when you’re having a bad day to cheer you up?

Untitled design (9).png

I would love to hang out with Will Herondale when I’m feeling down. I think he would do a great job in making me laugh and feel better again. But I could easily pick Will for every question of this tag, am I right ladies?

The Counselor: Which character would you go to for relationship advice or confide a secret to?

Untitled design (10).png

Harper from Rebel Belle would really be my first choice for this question. She does have her own struggles, but loves to be in control and I think she would give me great advice .

More than friends: Who would be your book bf/ gf (if you like both genders you can choose one of each, but only one choice per gender!)

Untitled design (11).png

So for my book boyfriend I would want to choose Daemon from the LUX series again, but then I’d have chosen this book series three times in one tag and that is not alright. But someone who I also love to be my boyfriend is prince Kai from the Lunar Chronicles. Daemon and Kai have both totally different personalities, but I don’t know, I like them both a lot.

I Tag

Thank you so much for reading! I really loved doing this tag, it was so interesting to do.Liesje
