The Versatile Blogger Award #2

Hello, everybody!

Thanks so much to Grace from quirkyandpeculiar for nomination me. I’ve done this award once before, and it was so much fun to do. I’m so glad I get to do it again!

THE RULES

  • Display the award on your blog.
  • Thank the blogger that nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 10 bloggers for the award and provide links to their blog.

7 FACTS ABOUT ME

1. This year, I’ll graduate from high school. In October I’ll attend university to study English and Spanish. I am nervous, but I can’t wait to start either!

2. It’s my goal to write my own book one day. I’ve been brainstorming on an idea for two years, and I think I have figured it out about now. Just adding some plot twists and drama

giphy (15)

3. I’m a professional procrastinator. I’m a pro at postponing studying for tests. Homework, I’ll do it the night before the deadline. I bet no one can do it better than me, you know.

source

4. I’m obsessed with crime stories and documentaries. My favorite shows on Netflix are Killer Couples, The Mind of a Murderer and Murder Files. Maybe it is because I have an interest in psychology and how the mind of a killer/ psychopath works, or maybe I’m just crazy myself.giphy (20)

5. I’m addicted to lip balm. Every two hours I have to apply some more. I don’t think if it’s harmful, but if it were, it’d probably be too late, haha.

6. I want to read a lot of classics, but I’m very intimidated by them. I think I’m going to read Wuthering Heights soon. What do you think about this book? I’ve heard many great reviews.

7. When I am over 18 years old, and I saved enough money, I want to travel to Canada and Australia, but also tour around Europe. My last trip to Italy has reminded me that I really love history and culture. In Europe, I would really want to visit Germany, Spain, Scotland, and Austria.

The Unique Blogger Award

Hello, hello!

I have some explaining to do. I’m sorry I haven’t posted for more than three weeks. It sounds so awful saying/writing this.

After I came back from my trip to Italy, I had an enormous travel hangover. I couldn’t bring myself to do anything productive. Have you ever had that feeling? I haven’t been active on my blog or Goodreads or read longer than one hour. It was a strange moment in my life, certainly not something I’m proud of. But since yesterday I feel like I’m over it and I feel great. I am finally doing useful things again!

Still, I am internally crying my eyes out at the moment. I can’t believe the last episodes of PLL are here!

Oh, the times we shared together… I still think back to the moments with Maya and Wren, even Jenna (or –spoiler alert– when I was convinced Alison was dead). Good times, good times.

Thank you so much notsomoderngirl for nominating me for this award! You are awesome!

the unique blogger award logoTHE RULES
  • Share a link to the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer the questions they’ve set.
  • Nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  • Ask them three questions, which they will answer in their award post

1. If you could change the ending of one book, which would it be?

It’s not often that I want to change the ending of a book, but there is one ending I was not okay with. That was with Caraval. To me, the ending felt blunt. The author went a little too easy about the ending events. Yeah, that read, unfortunately, wasn’t a good one.

2. Is there a film that you would say is better than the book it’s based on? Which one?

Good question. It had me thinking for quite a long time! Only in rare cases that ever happens to me. Maybe some people would disagree with me, but I really enjoyed the movies of the Hunger Games. Not that it was way better than the book, of course.

I haven’t read all the books in the Vampire Diaries series, but I definitely know I like the show more.

3. What’s something about you that makes you unique? (Seeing as this is the unique blogger award 😉 )!

Ah, time to get my narcissist side out! Kidding, I don’t have one.

Or maybe I do?

giphy (12).gif

I think every blog has his unique aspect to it! I know that sounds cheesy or cliché, but I truly think that it’s true. What I love to do to make my blog ‘stand out’ is to customize my blog. I enjoy creating the headers of the posts, choosing the right fonts and searching images and gifs, etc.

Every blog also has his own vibe to it. I try to make mine as positive as possible. And create a place where other bloggers have a great time. I hope I succeed only a little bit in that.

My questions
  1. What do you like most about being a (book)blogger?
  2. Which bookstagram accounts are your favorite?
  3. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?

Sunshine Blogger Award #3

Hello, everyone!

It’s is my third time being nominated for this award! I am so happy and grateful to the fabulous blogger who nominated me. Thank you, The Book Raven. You are awesome!

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you in your blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers that you think are positive, creative and inspiring to receive the award. Write 11 new questions for them.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

1. If you had to choose between obtaining the power of strength, the power of invisibility, or the power to mind read, which would you choose and why?

Whoa, starting off strong!

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be invisible. Being able to turn invisible would be awesome. I could spy on people without them seeing. Not in a creepy way of course.

giphy (74)

Just kidding!

But then mindreading sounds very intriguing too. I feel like I spent too much time overthinking stuff. It would make things much easier if I could just know what others are thinking.

I’m going with invisibility, though. Imagine how much fun you could have with scaring your friends!

2. What song got stuck in your head most recently? How do you feel about that song?

giphy (73)

We’re All In This Together from High School Musical. It has been stuck in my head for weeks. Don’t ask me how.

3. Do you believe that we are fated to go down a certain path or that we choose that path we take? Why do you feel that way?

I believe we choose the path we take. There are certain aspects of life you can’t control, of course. You can choose how to you deal with them – how you want to move forward. Everyone has potential. They just have to be willing to see it withing themselves.

4. What side character from the book you’re currently reading would you be and why?

2

I’m currently reading A Great and Terrible Beauty. There are a lot of teenage girls in this story but I don’t feel like any of them is similar to me. That doesn’t mean I am not enjoying the book. I love the story!

5. Do you have any pets? If you do picture them here:

I have one cat. I want to show you a picture of him when he is sleeping. He sleeps in the strangest positions! I don’t have one yet, and he’s outside doing god knows what. When I do have a picture, I’ll show it to you as soon as possible!

(It won’t take long. All this cat does when it’s inside is sleep. And eat.)

6. If you could instantly learn any language in the world which would it be and why?

I needed some time to think about this one because there are so many languages that I would want to speak. I’d choose Spanish. It’s such a colorful language (if that makes sense) and I love the flow of it. It sounds so exotic.

Fun fact: I’ll be studying Spanish and English at university next year!

7. What was the last book you read that inspired you? What is your favorite quote from that book? (Sorry for the extra step, I just love quotes!)

Angelfall by Susan Ee. You might’ve guessed it, haha. It inspires me to come out for myself. Stand out. Be independent, original. My favorite quote from the book is:

“Sometimes, as we’re stumbling along in the dark, we hit something good.”

8. What place from your childhood do you wish you could see again for the first time?

Most of the places I went to when I was a child hold happy memories. I love those places because of them. I hope I’ll be able to go back to Iceland or Sweden one day. Those were two of my favorite journeys.

9. What is your favorite time? Why is it your favorite?

The Roaring Twenties! I actually find every time in history intriguing. The Classical Antiquity is on number two – very close to number one. I love the passion for culture and dance, the optimism they had in the roaring twenties. I can’t get enough of books and movies set in that time!

Roaring-twenties-mAN-MAN.png
source

10. Who is/was your favorite teacher? What did they teach and why are they your favorite? (Give them a little thank you for being awesome)

There are two teachers I would want to thank. My history teacher, who taught me to think critically, to not simply ‘believe’ everything someone says. It made me grow into the person I am today. I’ve learned to look at history another way. I don’t know what I would be without my love for history.

I also want to thank my English teacher. She substituted at my school for six months. We covered the interesting topics. Finally, we saw some literature! Can you believe I have never read a book for my English class? We saw some bits of Dracula and Roald Dahl. We had a lot of group projects and lots of inspiring conversations. We’re probably obligated to cover those subjects, but she brought it with the same passion I have for languages and literature. It’s because of her I am sure I want to study languages.

11. If you could ask your favorite character a question what would it be?

Okay, so I have to choose one favorite character and ask one question to him or her. Uhm, let me think for a minute.

*twelve hours later*

I don’t know! I cannot choose!

I’ll get back to you in a few years. Let’s see if I’ve made up my mind then.

I’ve been talking for far too long. I hope you’ve made it this far! 😉

The blogs I nominate are:

Don’t forget to tag me in your post. I would love to read your answers! Feel free to ignore this if you don’t want to do this award!

These are the questions I have for you:

  1. Do you consider yourself a fast or a slow reader?
  2. Have you ever liked the movie better than the book?
  3. What’s your biggest bookish pet peeve?
  4. Which book character would you bring to life? Why?
  5. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you do?
  6. Which book you think has the most beautiful design?
  7. What inspires you to read?
  8. Do you prefer series or stand-alones?
  9. What book(s) can’t you stop talking about?
  10. Which two characters (from different books) would you ship together?
  11. What’s the last book that gave you a mental papercut?

I just heard about the attacks in London. My thoughts are with all the people close to the victims. I wish you my best.

Thank you for reading. liesje

Real Neat Blog Award #2

Hello there!

I own you an apology for being gone for so long. I couldn’t find the time to blog because a little evil thing called schoolwork really wanted some attention these past weeks. Now I have a week off from school, so that gives me some time to catch up. I also own Balie from Nerd in New York an apology for taking so long to answer her questions. And also a big thank you for nominating me, Balie! I must say you picked really hard questions, but they were really fun to answer.

1. What is your favorite book?

It should be rude to ask a book lover that question, but I’ll answer it anyhow. 😉 A book that has stuck with me for a couple of years and that I’ll always pick up if I need to cheer up is

*drumroll*

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas! This is my favorite book not only because of its fabulous writing, but also for the memories that come along with it. I bought this book on a school trip, one where I had a lot of fun. Every time I read these pages again I remember some details about the trip. Even though we were visiting lots of tourist attractions, I couldn’t stop myself from bringing this book with me even if it made my backpack so much heavier. What can I say? When a book is simply phenomenal,

giphy-3

2. How and when do you usually post your book reviews?

When I have finished reading a book, I like to write its review as soon as possible. That way I have a good memory of everything that happened in the book and my feelings towards it. But when I cannot write the review soon after finishing the book – say my computer has crashed – I keep a little notebook with me to write down little thoughts while I am reading it.

3. What is your favorite position to read in (not trying to be creepy, I swear)

It’s fine, really. When I am reading on the couch, my arms get tired after a little while so I reposition, two minutes later I feel my arms feeling tired again and I need to reposition once more, and so on. I haven’t found the perfect position that’ll stay comfortable for the time I am reading, so if anyone has, please let me know? My sore arms and neck will be forever grateful.

4. What is the first book that your remember reading?

I don’t know why, but I’ve always been a fan of lists and doodles. When I was little I always searched for the books with little drawings in them at bookstores. And luckily for me there was a book series called Lena Lijstje (English: Lena Lists) which had little drawings all over the pages. It was like heaven for me. The books were about a teenage girl struggling with the typical girl problems like boys, parents, friends, etc. I still have those four books proudly presented on my bookshelves.

5. What is your top 3 favorite authors?

That’s a hard question. Having favorites feels so official and I don’t really have the answer figured out yet. But I do really like Tahareh Mafi and Cassandra Clare’s writing. They are authors who are very talented in making me feel extremely emotional.

giphy-19

6. What is your favorite song to play when you’re reading?

I love to listen to classical music whilst I am reading. Songs with lyrics get me easily confused or distracted. I love it when I can put the fairy lights on and play some classical music when I am reading. It is the perfect way to wind down and really enjoy my book. I don’t have a particular song in mind, but I often go to Spotify for one of their playlists. Peaceful Piano is my go-to playlist for reading.

7. What’s your favorite music artist?

I really like Agnes Obel at the moment. Her songs are so eerie and beautiful and I love their vibe. I do not know why, but I get a lot of writing ideas from listening to her songs. I have the same phenomenon when I am listening to Florence and the Machine. You should definitely check out these artists if you are searching for emotional but also powerful songs.

Let’s talk in the comments

Does anyone also have a book linked to a certain event in their lives, or am I the only one?   🙂

That was it! I hoped you enjoyed this post. Thank you so much for reading and I hope I’ll see you guys here again soon!Liesje

The Real Neat Blog Award #1

Hello everyone!

I was nominated by two very lovely bloggers, Kei from The Lovely Pages Reviews and Balie from Nerd in New York. Thank you so much! I’ll be answering both of your questions in a different post, so I’ll be answering Kei’s questions in this post and Balie’s questions in another. Lot’s of love for you two!

The Rules

  • Thank and link the blogger that nominated you
  • Answer the 7 questions that the nomination has provided you
  • Create 7 questions for your nominees
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers

Kei’s questions

1. Name the most re-read book on your shelf.

I don’t usually re-read books, but one book series that I absolutely adored is the Infernal Devices series. I’ve re-read that book series one time, but like I said, I don’t usually do re-read books. Plus, I could never get tired of Will Herondale.

giphy (14)

2. Have you ever spoiled the ending of a book for yourself or others?

I definitely have. But I can’t remember what book it was for. Although it’s me who gets spoiled more often. Thanks sista!

3. Do you read negative reviews?

Yes. I think it’s good to read different opinions on a book. They could have some good remarks and some of them are very educational. But positive reviews make me very excited, so I still prefer those.

4. Name a book you’ve lied about reading or not reading.

Uhh, I don’t recall ever doing that. 🙂

5. Series or standalones?

I prefer series, because I get more attached to the characters and I just spend more time with them. And there is nothing wrong about that, isn’t it?

giphy (4)

6. Name the book you’re currently reading.

Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes.

7. Would you rather re-read the same book forever or forget every book you finish reading? (I’m so evil *insert evil laugh*)

Oh you are vicious! Just kidding :). This is such a difficult question, but I think I’ll go with forgetting every book you finish reading. Maybe I can take notes while I’m reading it and then read those again when I finished the book? I don’t know, but I think re-reading the same book over and over wouldn’t get me excited to read anymore…

That was it for this post! I am wondering, are some of you already back in school? I have two weeks of summer left, the time goes by so fast!Liesje

Blogger Recognition Award

Hello everyone! I was nominated for The Blogger Recognition Award by the very lovely Balie from Nerd in New York. Thank you so much, Balie!

Rules

  • Write a post to show your award
  • Give a brief story on how your blog started
  • Give two advice for new bloggers
  • Thank whoever nominated you, and link their page
  • Nominate 15 other bloggers

How it al started

When I was younger, I was always intrigued by the idea of having a blog. I knew that one day I would want to try it myself, but I was never brave enough to actually do it. I didn’t think anyone would want to read what I was writing, but after a while I decided to just try it out and see what happens. And that’s how I got here!

Advice

There is one thing that is said a lot as advice for bloggers and that is trying not to look at other people’s blogs. And I totally agree. Although you can learn from others, see how they handle their blog, etc., the satisfaction of achieving something that is completely yours is so amazing. Live your life and blog your post. I promise you that you’ll fall in love with blogging in an instant.

And if you feel insecure about yourself, try to look past it. I had the same struggles going into blogging, but with the support that you get from this community, it’s impossible to regret the decision of starting your blog. Just start, you can only improve and learn from experience. Good luck!

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much Sean over at Kingdombookblog for tagging me. Everyone who hasn’t checked his blog out yet, do it! It’s pretty great if you ask me. 🙂

The rules

  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you
  • Answer the questions that were given to you
  • Nominate other bloggers for this award and give them your own questions to answer!
  • Notify those others bloggers of their nomination

1. Do you prefer fantasy books or contemporary books?

It really depends on the mood I’m in, really. When I need cheering up, I will mostly prefer contemporary books. But overall I tend to pick up more fantasy books.

2. What made you start you blog and how long ago did you start?

I started my blog in the beginning of 2016. I posted my first post in February. I wanted to start a blog because I simply wanted to share my thoughts on books with you guys. The travel segment on my blog is my favorite actually. Every time I get back from a trip I want to share what I did and learned in that county. But books are my main focus on this blog.

3. Do you watch any booktubers, and if so which are your favorites?

I’m a little obsessed with booktube. My favorite booktuber is Abookutopia. Others I really like watching are Riley Marie, readbyzoe and jessethereader.

4. How many bookshelves do you have and how many shelves are on each?

I have one main bookshelf with 30 books on it. Not all my books fit on that one shelf, of course, and I really need to buy another one, but the rest of my books are randomly put somewhere in my room.

sdfqsdf

5. Do you/can you listen to music while you are reading?

It depends on how difficult the books is. If it’s a heavy and serious book, I don’t listen to music. But when I read other books that are a little bit easier to read, then I usually put on some classical music, but I cannot focus on the book with music with lyrics on.

6. Which two characters from different books do you ship together?

I ship Luna from Reign of Shadows with David Stark from Rebel Belle. I think those two would from the cutest couple in the world.

7. List every single book that you would consider to be your all-time favorites (there is no limit to how many you choose)?

  • The Infernal Devices Series
  • The Kiss of Deception
  • Throne of Glass Series

I know these are very hyped up books and seem obvious choices, but I genially liked these books, all the hype aside. They are so amazing!

The Liebster Award

Thank you so much Balie @Nerd in New York for nominating me. You are such an amazing person and your blog is amazing! Everyone should definitely check her blog out!

The Rules

  • Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the award.
  • Answer the 11 questions that the blog gives you.
  • Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5-11 blogs that you think are deserving of the award that have less than 200 followers.
  • Let the blogs know you have nominated them.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

My Answers

1. What’s the first book you ever remember reading?

I don’t exactly remember the first book that I’ve ever read, but some of my childhood books I still have with me and some of them are the Geronimo Stilton’s books (has anyone read these?). I loved them so much as a kid! Those pages that smelled? Then I also remember reading Lena Lijstje, a dutch book series about a girl who loves making lists about everything. And then the For Girls Only books (also dutch). I don’t know how many there are now, but we have eight of them at home. I actually think the author, Hetty van Aar, is still writing new ones. But I really adored those books. Please let me know if anyone has read those too?

2. Who’s your favorite book boyfriend?

You know, this is really a question that gets me stressed out. There are so many great book boyfriends and I’m really not a decisive person haha. But Dorian of the Throne of Glass series, I don’t know what it is about him really, but every time he pops up in the story, I feel excited and happy. Although I do think Chaol and Celena have great chemistry too, I prefer the prince more. (I read the first two books only, so please no spoilers haha). Other than that, every guy that has the sarcastic humor is a catch for me.

3. What’s your favorite genre?

Fantasy. 100%. There are so many possible ways the story can go. A whole new world is created and as you are reading the book, you discover all these fascinating new people and all these different kinds of magic and, ugh, it’s all just so much fun. I love it when a book takes me to a whole new world.

aladdin

4. What is your favorite subject at school? Or was your favorite subject?

My favorite subject at school is history. It’s kind of reading non-fictional history books, not in the most ideal way, but still. The way people used to live their lives and how it differs from ours right now, really fascinate me. It’s interesting to see how we’ve learned from certain moments, and then being able to realize what can still be changed or needs improvement.

5. Why did you start this book blog?

I just really wanted to be in this community openly, because where I live, there aren’t so many book lovers that I know personally. I love to talk with everyone who’s passionate about books and want to talk about the certain books we’ve read and recommend new ones to each other that we think the other person will like etc. It’s just one happy place and I’m truly happy to be a part of it!

6. What is your favorite book?

At the moment Throne of Glass has a special place in my heart. Everywhere I see the book, my heart makes a little jump and I just want to recommend it to everyone. The plot line is amazing and I love the characters so much. I’m really attached to the story and I still need to read the third and fourth book in that series and I can’t wait!

giphy

7. If you were to choose any place to go, where do you want to go?

I would love to go on a holiday in Australia. I love their accent, it sounds so cheerful and friendly. They also have great weather, which I can’t always say for the country I live in. I really want to go on a holiday there, or maybe study abroad? Has anyone seen Dance Academy? I was obsessed with that show! It teared my heart in pieces at the end. I think the people who’ve seen the show can guess what I’m talking about…

And I also want to go to Sweden. I’ve been there once, in the christmas holidays, and I had the most amazing time! I want to do like a trip through the country, or just do a citytrip in Stockholm. And have you seen their contestant at the Eurovision Song Contest? What a cutie

cfxylrn8qqyipqrjioovhcopqhc-jpg

I do have this crazy idea that I want to move outside my country when I’m older too. I have no clear idea where I would go, but the idea is really tempting me.

I need to figure out to be very rich to accomplish all these crazy ideas that I have.

8. What’s your favorite food?

French fries with beef and pepper sauce. I know, not the healthiest meal, but I mean, I live in Belgium, the country of the fries…

But one healthy snack I really enjoy is humus with sesame sticks. It’s delicious, I just can’t stop eating it.

9. What are you currently reading?

I’m still reading You by Caroline Kepnes. I’m kind of stuck in the middle, but maybe that is because I have finals now and I haven’t really found the time to really sit down and read.

10. What’s your  next read?

I’m still debating on what to read next. I want to start A Court of Mist and Fury, maybe that’s because everyone has been talking about it and I am so curious now about what’s going to happen. But I also really want to start the Falling Kingdoms series.

11. Why do you like books?

Why do you not like books? I mean I kind of said it when I was talking about fantasy books, but like our world is so boring at times, that I just want to get out of it and experience a thrilling adventure.

Facts

1. My favorite genre to read is fantasy. I love it when you discover totally different worlds and like creatures and abilities, it’s just such an awesome adventure.

2. My favorite subject in school is history. I’m really fascinated by how people used to life and how they thought and dealt with stuff. It’s just very eye-opening to see how our world has grown to how it is right now.

3. I am very sensitive on how people deal with discrimination and racism. I can get really mad and frustrated when somebody says something offensive about someone who just hasn’t done anything wrong. Stereotypes and prejudices are one of my biggest ‘pet peeves’. I just don’t get why people keep on hating on each other, their lives could just be so much easier if they just let them be and live their life because they are not hurting them. There should be more love in the world. Live a happy life.

4. In 2015 I studied in France for three months. It’s one of the biggest achievements in my life and I’m really proud of myself that I’ve concurred it. It has been the most amazing time of my life. I didn’t expect all the good side-effects after such an experience. If you are ever doubting if you would want to study abroad or not, I truly recommend just going for it, I had no regrets. This summer I’m going back to the village I’ve stayed in and I’m really looking forward to meeting all of the friends I made there!

5. I’m a chocolate addict. And I’m really not exaggerating when I say addict, because if there is chocolate in the house – and I know about it – the last piece will definitely have been eaten by me. And Belgium has the greatest chocolate, so why not take advantage?

6. I’m not sporty at all. I’m so bad at it, it’s embarrassing. But I do keep on trying (and failing). There was this horrible embarrassing moment in PE that I don’t seem to forget. I’ve told this once over at Balie’s blog Nerd in New York. And now I’ll tell it once more so that it’s sure everyone here knows about my pathetic life… Once in PE we had to create a little athletic ‘show’ where we do things like a cartwheel, etc. Some weeks later we had to show our little performances to the other groups. And I just forgot everything we practiced and I started with a complete different version. The whole thing looked like a mess and everyone was looking at me struggling to get back in the rhythm of the real performance. And I wasn’t even good at athletics…

7. I love to travel. There is this teacher at my school that has a goal to visit every single country in the world, and he has already been to more than half I think. But he really inspired me and I do want to travel a lot (but not every country), but I do plan on visiting as many unique countries possible. I want to volunteer in Africa too. There is yet so much to be done! Places that I’ve been to and will stick with me forever are; Iceland, sbeautiful, it’s like being on a totally different planet, Sweden, that was at Christmas time aka the most beautiful white Christmas I ever had and France, the country that will forever have a place in my heart. Next year our school has planned a trip to Italy and I’m looking so forward to it!
